Spanish Training Camp 2017
Costa Blanca - Calpe
Thursday 20nd April – Thursday 27th April

2017 warm weather spring triathlon/cycling training camp based in Calpe on the Costa Blanca, Spain. The location is famously used by the majority of professional cycling teams for their spring training camps, so expect to be rubbing shoulders with your cycling heroes (in the hotel lift if not out on the road).

Accommodation - Hotel AR Diamante 4 Star Hotel, set 200 metres from Levante Beach in Calpe, 3 outdoor swimming pools surrounded by sun terraces.

All rooms at AR Diamante Beach Spa Hotel feature a balcony and free internet connection. They are also equipped with air conditioning and satellite TV. The seafront promenade is 2 minutes’ walk from the hotel with many restaurants, bars and shops.#

 Cost

£390 – includes 7 nights Half Board + Transfer (with bike).
Half board = Breakfast + Evening Meal + Table Wine.
Includes access to hotel spa.

Price based on 2 sharing (£150 single person supplement).

For comparison
La Santa 2 sharing = £676+transfers Per Person

The camp is running from Thursday 20th April to Thursday 27th April 2017, so ideally timed for the summer race season, and of course the early season 70.3 and IM distance races. However this camp is not only for those taking on the longer distances, it will also cater for athletes of all abilities who are planning to race any distance or just wish to have a week’s cycling in the Spanish mountains. Although the week will be structured with a full week of activities these are not compulsory so you can ‘dip in or out’ as you choose.

The week will focus on cycling in the Spanish mountains but the hotel is only 200m from the beach where safe open water swim sessions will take place, and running from the hotel is also easy and safe, so all three disciplines will be catered for within the weekly program. Your lead coach for the week will be BTF Level 3 and Kaizen Coach Brian Butler who will be supported by a very experienced and knowledgeable coaching team.

Can I bring my partner who would like to take a Spanish break without the sport? Of course, the hotel is in the very popular seaside resort of Calpe, close to the shops, bars and restaurants and the area is fantastic for sightseeing, there is a small discount for non-participating partners.

Update from Brian

Wanting to make the first Natural Ability Spring Training Camp 2017 a great experience for you all, we thought it only to right and proper to carry out a route and hotel recce.

Having been to the Diamante Beach Hotel a few times, we decided to check out the facilities from an athlete perspective. This hotel is worth every one of its 4 stars, with a spacious and luxurious foyer, bright restaurants with views out to the sea, and a spa with every pampering need you could want. Being very cycle friendly the hotel offers an underground secure area which we will be using on the camp to store the bikes, carry out any bike maintenance and conduct our pre-ride briefings. The hotel will certainly cater nicely for all of our training camp needs.

From the hotel, a calm protected sea front is only a 2min walk away, the running routes are numerous, but without doubt the jewel in the crown is the never ending variety of cycling routes into the Spanish mountains. The routes we have planned will be challenging, rewarding and provide you with an number of options based upon your riding ability. Having ridden in Spain for a number of years we have come to realise that coffee stops are obligatory, so we have also planned some of our favorite stops for you to enjoy. To ensure you all get the most from our cycling routes we will be providing Strava links, and route cards for all the rides which will include degree of difficulty and the expected riding time.

Only 3 places remain so if you are interested in joining us let us know ASAP.

Looking forward to seeing you all in April.

After a couple of months of fitness building, Karen and I decided it was time for a break. We wanted to have a few days away before I start my IM Majorca build phase, so two days in Bournemouth and four days in Weymouth was booked. Have to say a few days away really refreshes your mind and body.

Well, my build up to 2014 races have begun, after an excellent Christmas and new year, and a not so great flu bug, the 2014 race season is fast approaching. I have been browsing races for 2014 and my A race will be Ironman Mallorca on 27th September.

Week 1 is was a 6hr week with

2 swims,

1 bike,

2 runs

1 long brick

All competed even if my fitness leaves a lot to be desired.

So Let's get cracking....

Little Challenges

It's not Alpe d' Huez, or any where near it but its probably the hardest climb around my stomping ground so i have set a little challenge to ride up Knowle Hill every time i venture out,
i have set a little sector:
1.92miles  from Arlescote turn to the top of Knowle hill (tarmac Line) and its 14% at its steepest.
1 have rode this twice so far:
24/10/13 = 12mins 11sec
1/11/13 = 11mins 30sec
